To gain an understanding of how this came about, we need to return to 1919, when the first myelogram was performed using air.

Myelography is the imaging study of the spinal canal by X-ray, and is used in conditions such as prolapsed disc or any compressive disorder including spinal tumours.

As such, it has been a widely used study that was at one time regarded by the medical fraternity as a vital investigation in determining the cause of spinal problems.
