I had a stimulator put in first with 2 wires, within a month one of the wires had grown over with adhesions so they had to put the other one up higher so it would cover the pain in both legs. After a while that didn't cover the worst of the pain and yes the morphine pump is the last resort as my specialist said the end of the line, there is no where else to go. I was told I could not have an MRI with a pump in, I had one with the stimulator but even that could not see through the adhesions at the base of the spine and because I have stainless steel screws there they threw out a reflection so that didn't help either.
I got Meningitis 3 months after having the pump put in and my Neuro Surgeon told me to get it out not refilled as next time might be the last time but I got it refilled and am due for another refill next month. I go to a pain management specialist for that and he is wonderful. Hope you start feeling better.
I was told by a previous orthopedic surgeon who did my 2nd and 3rd spinal ops not to take calcium vitamins or Glucosamine and I was reading an article on the net put out by the NZ govt that they say not to take Glucosamine either, it makes the adhesions grow faster.

I am really worried about continuing to take Glucosamine which I have taken regularly to improve my lumbar spine. I do not have a spine stimulator, but recent MRI scan shows spondylosis in thorasic and cervical spine which was not there 5 years ago! Do you have a web address for the article by NZ government?
Best wishes Helen

Hi Helen
www.theaword.org/index.php?option=com_co...84&Itemid=46
This is the NZ article but that link was broken but I think I have another one somewhere and will look tommorow. I will email DocSarah for an update on Glucosamine as well.
But if you put Glucosamine into our Search it will give you 4 articles.
Wll try to sort tomorrow but have a meeting 10-4 so maybe evening.
Bye for now

I read an article on the net that said if you had Arachnoiditis you should not take glucosamine as it made the adhesions grow faster.

www.burtonreport.com/InfSpine/AdhesArachNewZealandReport.htm

Is this the NZ report you are looking for? It is the only country to do a report but I think it was done about 2002 and don't know of any further ones.
