Do any of you travel abroad? If so have you found getting travel insurance cover a problem? Any good companies to recommend? Anyone had any horror stories about when they travelled 'too far'? I am considering taking a chance on going abroad but am petrified i have a flare up or just can't sit/stand any longer while on the plane/bus etc.

Hi kev - I travel abroad every year for 2 weeks and just take pot luck as to how I am on the day! Once I was very ill the day before travelling but still had to pack my suitcase - luckily I'd made a list of what to take and I found that very helpful. With regard to travel insurance I would recommend Norwich Union.
Enjoy your holiday!

Hi Kev, I went to Europe last winter for 4 months last winter and hopefully will do the same this winter.

I could not get travel insurance for 'arach' per say as it was considered preexisting but was insured for anything else that might have happened.

Check out the US Embassy website even if you are not American for the country you are going to as they usually have quite a complete list of doctors and specialists who speak English.

I went with photocopies of my Rx's plus the doctor did a medical summary for me which I made a few copies of.

When I booked my ticket I asked for a special seat with leg room plus assistance boarding and changing terminals, this worked out really well and I'll certainly do this again.

I kept all my meds. in my carry on.

Keep your meds. locked in your hotel. You'll do fine, just pace yourself, Europe for the most part is quite advanced for those with handicaps compared to where I live, kindly, Aly

Hi Kev
Regarding Travel Insurance as well as car insurance. Both tried loading me with horrendous premiums so now I just tell them I have arthritis and mobility problems. Seems to keep them happy but then again you never have a problem with insurance until you try to claim!
Down to awareness again I'm afraid.
Bye for now
