In Rotterdam, at the 1949 Symposium Neuroradiologicum ([1]), English neuroradiologist James Bull stated that air or oxygen should be the current material of choice.

He remarked:

"the more often one falls back on positive contrast material*, the less capable one proves oneself as a neuroradiologist."
